The two sister companies of the Pax Group, Schouten Logistiek and Van Opzeeland received the Lean & Green Award on 11 November 2010. Lean & Green is a programme that stimulates companies to grow to a higher level of sustainability. By taking specific measures, the impact on the environment is decreased considerably.
With this Lean & Green Award, both companies show that they are actively making an effort to do business in a more sustainable way by making processes more efficient. In order to receive the award the companies had to submit a Plan of Approach to Connekt, who then requested TNO to assess the plans. The plans included concrete CO2 targets for 2012/2015 and KPI's. Both companies have committed themselves to achieving the following targets: Schouten Logistiek has set the goal to achieve a CO2 reduction of 24.6%, with respect to 2007, by the end of 2012, and Van Opzeeland 20% with respect to 2007.
In order to achieve this, the following measures will be taken: intensive collaboration with sister companies within the Pax Group, synchronizing delivery schedules of clients, internal measures that realize savings (for instance, turning off the light during breaks), training for employees (defensive driving / the new way of driving), using automated trip planner systems, longer and heavier trucks and hybrid vehicles.
