The pipes, weighing\u00a02 tons each, serve as a\u00a0safety stock\u00a0for the project in which the country\u2019s oldest water pipeline is being renewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new\u00a011-kilometer-long pipeline\u00a0is being laid at a rate of\u00a0100 meters per day. Once again,\u00a0cast-iron pipes\u00a0were chosen for their durability. The old pipes are being replaced one by one to ensure that water delivery continues uninterrupted. The safety stock in\u00a0Alphen\u00a0will remain in place until the end of the project, though it is expected to play a more active role than initially anticipated.
