The oldest water pipeline in the Netherlands is being replaced

From the new PAX Group tautliner, the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management officially kicked off the project to replace the oldest water pipeline in the Netherlands.

Earlier this spring, PAX Logistics was commissioned to store 240 cast-iron water pipes (each 7 meters long) at the outdoor yard in Alphen aan den Rijn. The pipes, weighing 2 tons each, serve as a safety stock for the project in which the country’s oldest water pipeline is being renewed.

The new 11-kilometer-long pipeline is being laid at a rate of 100 meters per day. Once again, cast-iron pipes were chosen for their durability. The old pipes are being replaced one by one to ensure that water delivery continues uninterrupted. The safety stock in Alphen will remain in place until the end of the project, though it is expected to play a more active role than initially anticipated. The first truckloads have already left the Alphen site and will soon be replenished.
