We handle remarkable projects every day, but this one truly stands out! This afternoon, we delivered the final parts of a replica of an 18th-century VOC ship to Scheemda.
In early May, work began at a stunning location in the Port of Rotterdam to dismantle the massive frames. Due to their size, some sections had to be cut before being lifted onto semi-low loaders using a truck-mounted crane. In total, the framework of this replica was transported from Rotterdam to Scheemda in 17 separate shipments.
The project began ambitiously in the late 1990s — the goal was to build one of the largest ship replicas in the world. However, rising construction costs, budget cuts, and conflicts halted progress, leaving only the skeleton. Now, the VOC ship will be rebuilt in Scheemda at a former cardboard factory. The new owner has big plans to transform the site into an experience park with event spaces, accommodations, and hospitality facilities.
