A complete 21-meter-long bridge was transported to Hasselt, Belgium. The bicycle bridge was destined for the largest Japanese garden in Europe. Due to its 6-meter width, the transport from Heerenveen had to take place at night.
The 20-ton bridge was manufactured by Groot Lemmer in Heerenveen. It was loaded yesterday morning using an overhead crane and two truck-mounted cranes onto a 5-axle semi low-loader. The transport involved several stretches of driving against traffic, the temporary removal of traffic signs, and two rounds of police escort—but it made it to Hasselt safely.
Thanks to thorough route research, the entire journey went smoothly. And because the construction site had been carefully inspected beforehand, the final location for the bridge was perfectly prepared and everything went exactly according to plan.
