Even though the hospitality industry has come to a standstill, construction in Groningen continues on ‘Merckt’ a trendy four-story food market located in the heart of the city on the Grote Markt.

Merckt will feature, among other things, a brewery where the entire production process is visible to visitors, including a 15-metre-high wall lined with fermentation tanks. Earlier, PAX Group transported a large part of the installation to the lower floor, using a compact crane ideal for such tight spaces. Today, a 4.5-ton tank installation was lifted into place with a truck-mounted crane.

Merckt is designed to be a central meeting place where locals, students, tourists, and visitors from the region can come together to enjoy a unique and vibrant food court on the Grote Markt the living room of Groningen. In addition to a wide variety of cuisines, Merckt will also house a brewery, coffee roastery, and distillery.
