Last night, two large pontoons were launched right in the heart of Leeuwarden. The pontoons will serve as an extension of the terrace capacity along the Nieuwestad canal.

Measuring 20 metres in length and 5 metres in width, the pontoons were carefully transported into the city centre with precise coordination. A telescopic crane from Kielstra then hoisted the new terrace sections into the canal.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, fewer guests can be accommodated on existing terraces. To support local businesses, hospitality entrepreneurs across Friesland have been temporarily permitted to expand their outdoor seating areas.
